Going WILD at the Erie Zoo

Some of the ladies took the TEAM Services bus to the Erie Zoo on Wednesday!  Thank goodness it didn’t rain and the ladies had a great time watching all the animals.  They took the train ride through the park and enjoyed a picnic lunch.  This sure has been a fun summer!

Resident/Family Picnic

We had another very successful Resident/Family Picnic on Aug. 11.  The Shorewood Country Club hosted the WCA residents and their family and friends.  The food was delicious, the entertainment was wonderful and the weather was perfect!  The WCA Home would like to thank the community  for such a successful porch sale which allowed us to have such a special event for our residents and their loved ones!  We look forward to next year’s porch sale and another unforgettable resident event!

Special Treat Tuesday

The WCA Home’s head cook, Joann Smith, surprised the ladies with a special dessert at lunch today – Strawberry cupcakes with chocolate fudge frosting and a chocolate dipped strawberry and whipped cream on the side!

Thank you Joann for such a yummy treat!

July Resident and Employee of the Month

June and Kristine

RESIDENT OF THE MONTH – JULY

Our resident of the month for July is June Mirwald.  June moved in to the WCA Home in April 2013.  Before coming to stay with us, June lived in her home of 73 years in South Dayton.

June was born in New York State and was raised in South Dayton.  She graduated from South Dayton High School in 1939.  June married Wenzel Mirwald in 1940 and they raised three children.  Her family has grown over the years and she now has six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren

June has always kept herself very busy!  She raised three kids, waitressed at Mirwald’s Restaurant, and helped her husband with his duties as Justice of the Peace in South Dayton.  For many years, June was the recreation leader at the local playground.  Her favorite pastime is playing bridge and she was very active in the South Dayton bridge club.  June has always been a caregiver to her family, friends and neighbors.

An interesting small world fact – June’s grandparents lived in the house that is now The Mustard Seed Restaurant!  June spent much of her childhood at that home and now it is home to another WCA Home resident’s family.  Annette Puleff creates her wonderful meals there for all to enjoy!  The ladies are going to visit Annette at The Mustard Seed for Friday fish fry on June 28.  Hopefully June will go along and enjoy some great food and wonderful memories!

We are so happy to have June Mirwald with us and congratulate her on being July’s Resident of the Month.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH – JULY

Kristine Gehling is The WCA Home Employee of the Month.  She has been with us since January 2013.

Kristine was raised in Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School.  She is currently attending JCC.

Kristine is a PCA floor aide and provides wonderful care to the ladies.  She loves working with the residents and enjoys playing cards with them (even though they always beat her!)  She can’t say enough wonderful things about the ladies!  “They are kind and thoughtful and make me just fall in love with them.”

We are happy to have you working with us at The WCA Home and congratulations on being July’s Employee of the Month!
