The residents and staff of The WCA Home want to thank Robin Roof for coming to perform for us! He is very talented and inspirational. We all enjoyed the performance.
Chantal Rios is the WCA Home Employee of the Month for August
Chantal Rios has only worked for the WCA Home since April of this year but already has won residents and staff over with her friendly smile and gentleness.
Rios was born in Buffalo and raised in Dunkirk, where she continues to live with her two children. Rios graduated from Dunkirk High School, became a certified cosmetologist through BOCES and then received her PCA training from Chautauqua Opportunities.
Being a single mom and working fulltime at WCA Home and part-time as a home care aide for Chautauqua Opportunities is a lot to handle but Rios enjoys making times special with her children by taking them to the park and swimming and especially to Chuckie Cheese. Rios says her family is small but very important to her and her children. Rios does enjoy an occasional shopping trip for clothes and shoes for everyone.
Rios is seriously considering attending classes to become a LPN and will be looking into several different places offering this specific training.
Whatever Rios decides to do, ladies at the WCA Home are looking forward to having her with them for quite a while. Rios enjoys caring and helping the residents and it shows with her actions.
Sandy Lilley – Resident for the Month of July
Sandy Lilley has been chosen as the WCA Home’s Resident of the Month for July.
Sandy was born and raised and lived most of her life in Silver Creek. She graduated from Silver Creek High School and then worked for six years at the M&T Bank in Silver Creek. Lilley then left the outside workforce and became a stay-at-home mother.
She enjoyed raising her four children and takes great pleasure in being able to see all of her children as they have remained in the New York State – Pennsylvania area. Sandy feels fortunate that she often gets to see her three grandchildren. It is special when her children come to visit and take her out to eat with them at one of her favorite restaurants, KFC or Applebee’s.
In 1981, when her youngest child was 11, Lilley returned to the outside workforce and joined the David G. Glenn Insurance Agency as an insurance agent in the Silver Creek office. She retired from that position in 2007, after 26 years of service. When asked if she enjoyed the work, Lilley says, “the work and the people I worked with were super and I really enjoyed all the clients – all were special.
At home, Sandy especially enjoyed doing yard work and spending time tending her flower garden. Lilley says, “I loved my flower garden and would spend hours working in it.”
Sandy has been a resident at the WCA Home for four years and says that she enjoys the trips and outings done through the Activities Department, quiet time watching television and going out to a movie and having popcorn.
Sandy takes great pride in her personal appearance and carries herself with an air of assurance. Always quick with a beautiful smile, we are happy to have Sandy Lilley as our Resident for the Month of July.
Brenda Leone is the WCA Home’s Employee for the Month of July
Brenda Leone was born, raised and continues to live in Silver Creek. She graduated Silver Creek High School and then graduated with honors and the Alumni Association Award for Excellence from Jamestown School of Nursing and is a licensed practical nurse.
Leone’s first job in nursing was at Brooks Memorial Hospital for 12 years, 15 years at Park Shore Nursing Home and has spent the last nine years at WCA Home as Case Manager for all residents.
While working at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Leone met her husband, Jeff. The couple has been married 29 years and has two children; Sammy who is a college student and Jillian, who is a military wife. Leone has three grandchildren through her daughter, Jillian.
Never one to sit still, Leone enjoys her seven Love Birds, Bastion dog, making bird toys, gardening, sewing, tending to the fish in her pond, riding motorcycle with her husband, and crafts in general. Leone also enjoys traveling to see her grandchildren and Disney World.
Brenda is Case Manager for all the residents at the WCA Home and when you ask her if she enjoys her job, she replies “…I love my job and all the ladies at the Home. I enjoy when I tease them, they laugh and smile – even when I am serious about something.” Leone has a sense of dedicated care for all the residents and is meticulous in her care but always there with an arm around the residents’ shoulder or quietly speaking with them.
We thank Brenda for all she does and are proud to have her as our Employee of the Month.
